Week 2 - Intramural Basketball – The boys and girls of DSP upheld the first rule of success, showing up. Fresh off of last week’s win, DSP was out to prove there are no flukes in Basketball, just hard work and skill. It was Trent Pahl starting off on fire, scoring 8 of the first 10 points for the team. The opponents just didn’t seem to have an answer for his speed in the beginning. Same as last week, it was the stamina of the girls that served as the backbone for the team effort. Caitlin McGinn was a defensive force, collecting numerous rebounds and scoring on several second-chance opportunities. DSP ended the first half with a comfortable 13 point lead and were not about to play the second half on cruise control. It seemed as though the opponents waited for the second half to get in gear, cutting the DSP lead to four within the final few minutes. Riding the coattails of their two star players, the opponents were able to keep it interesting , forcing the game into a five minute overtime, tied 40 all. Proving to be clutch as usual, ‘Coach’ Zimmerman and pledge Reed Miller charged the lane and lit it up from downtown to give DSP a two point lead with 58 seconds to go. From then on, the team’s efforts were focused on maintaining possession and running out the clock, which proved successful. In true nail-biter fashion, DSP improved their record to 2-0 and proved that not all wins are pretty.

Etiquette Dinner!
November 3, 2009: Last night, 35 brothers and pledges attended an etiquette dinner at the LSC. We heard a great presentation on how to act while at a professional dinner or banquet. I learned how to act courteously in a number of situations that I would have never even thought might come up. Everything imaginable was covered: where your silverware should be placed on your plate when you are resting and when you are finished, how to eat soup, where to place a napkin on your lap and even the proper way butter your role. This was a fun and entertaining event and it gave brothers the chance to take what they learned and apply it in the business world! Thanks to Bryon and Erica for putting on another great professional event!!!

DSP Basketball!!
October 27, 2009 – The boys and girls of DSP are back in action, playing their first game in co-ed basketball, with a few pledges included. DSP started out a little rusty, with the other team scoring eight unanswered points. It was the focus of pledge Reed Miller that started of the scoring with a pair of free throws. And the scoring didn’t stop there. Unquestionably the star of the show, Miller played like his pledge semester was on the line. Miller’s performance was complemented nicely with the blazing speed of Trent Pahl as well as the in your face style of ‘Coach’ Blake Zimmerman. The back bone of the team was truly the efforts of the girls of DSP. With only one girl able to sit out at a time, Jackie Moulton, Emily Boaz, Caitlin McGinn, as well as pledge Morgan “Sky-High” Waugh, the DSP girls showed the true meaning of endurance. The team really caught fire in the second half and with the help of Kevin Gritters, Brian Land, Matt Koller and Jared Goldstein, DSP outran their opponents plain and simple. Towards the end, the name of the game was ‘maintain’. With an overall well rounded performance, they showed they are quite capable of mixing business with kicking butt. Toss up a W for week one, these boys and girls are out to show CSU who we are. This is Delta Sigma Pi.

Intramurals
This has been an exciting semester for Intramurals so far. We went 3-1 in boys basketball and made it to the second round of playoffs. It was our best season in many years and felt great to get some solid wins under our belts.
Currently we are in the middle of the flag football season. We have both a boys and girls team this semester, which is awesome to see! Our girls have played extremly well, and have had a couple tough losses, thus far. There last game came down to the wire, when a last second effort was thwarted with an interception in the end zone. Our boys are playing well too. They are currently 2-0. The games are always a fun time and its great to get out and play with our Brothers.
