DSP B-Ball 2-0

Week 2 - Intramural Basketball – The boys and girls of DSP upheld the first rule of success, showing up. Fresh off of last week’s win, DSP was out to prove there are no flukes in Basketball, just hard work and skill. It was Trent Pahl starting off on fire, scoring 8 of the first 10 points for the team. The opponents just didn’t seem to have an answer for his speed in the beginning. Same as last week, it was the stamina of the girls that served as the backbone for the team effort. Caitlin McGinn was a defensive force, collecting numerous rebounds and scoring on several second-chance opportunities. DSP ended the first half with a comfortable 13 point lead and were not about to play the second half on cruise control. It seemed as though the opponents waited for the second half to get in gear, cutting the DSP lead to four within the final few minutes. Riding the coattails of their two star players, the opponents were able to keep it interesting , forcing the game into a five minute overtime, tied 40 all. Proving to be clutch as usual, ‘Coach’ Zimmerman and pledge Reed Miller charged the lane and lit it up from downtown to give DSP a two point lead with 58 seconds to go. From then on, the team’s efforts were focused on maintaining possession and running out the clock, which proved successful. In true nail-biter fashion, DSP improved their record to 2-0 and proved that not all wins are pretty.

Etiquette Dinner!

November 3, 2009: Last night, 35 brothers and pledges attended an etiquette dinner at the LSC. We heard a great presentation on how to act while at a professional dinner or banquet. I learned how to act courteously in a number of situations that I would have never even thought might come up. Everything imaginable was covered: where your silverware should be placed on your plate when you are resting and when you are finished, how to eat soup, where to place a napkin on your lap and even the proper way butter your role. This was a fun and entertaining event and it gave brothers the chance to take what they learned and apply it in the business world! Thanks to Bryon and Erica for putting on another great professional event!!!
